Points of Interest
You'll never be bored at Vila Cappelli. Besides all the stuff just on the villa's grounds, you'll find there are lots of wonderful things to see and do nearby.
Castel Del Monte
Take a quick half-hour’s drive from Villa Cappelli and you'll find the spectacular Castel del Monte. Built by Frederick II, the Swabian king and Holy Roman Emperor, it is a mystical edifice with a 360 degree view of northern Puglia — from the Murge all the way to the Gargano peninsula.
Polignano a Mare
Polignano a Mare is a sight to behold as it sits on a rocky promontory that juts into the sea. There is a great beach here in addition to the wonder views. And if you are looking for an extra special meal, this is were you'll find Grotta Palazzese, listed as one of the top ten restaraunts in the world with a view.
Matera
Walk the winding ancient streets of this town so well preserved that it has been used as a movie set for films like Passion of the Christ. Matera features homes, restaurants, and hotels built out from caves in the soft “tufa” rock. Many of the cave homes were inhabited until the 1950s. Matera was also just declared Italian host of European Capital of Culture for 2019!
Terlizzi
When you want to head to the nearest town, this is where you'll go. Terlizzi has wonderful restaurants that serve excellent food at very reasonable prices. It is an ancient town with a Norman and Swabian past. The clock tower dates to the 12th century and is the second largest backlit clock tower in Europe after Big ben. The church of Santa Maria di Cesano, just a half mile from the Villa, was built in 1055 AD.
Gravina
Take a ride through La Murgia with beautiful fields of grain and trulli covering the countryside to visit Gravina which features a large ravine with some spectacular views, a Roman bridge that is right out of a postcard, and an ancient church carved right into a cave. Kids and adults will both love this spot.
Giovinazzo
You don't have to go far to enjoy Giovinazzo since it's just 12 kilometers away. This jewel of a town sits right on the Adriatic and is truly undiscovered. It features the most romantic tiny fishing port and some spectacular medieval architecture. Wander the streets and feel like you're walking back in time.
Trani
You're sure to love Trani, another beautiful seaside town just 30 minutes from the villa. You'll be amazed by it's famous cathedral. Sitting right on the water, it is truly spectacular. The port itself is beautiful with tons of restaurants catering to tourists, so it's a nice place to have lunch or enjoy a gelato.
Cannae
Travel back in time to 216 B.C. and the site of the Battle of Cannae, a major battle of the Second Punic War, near the town of Cannae. Here Hannibal decisively defeated a numerically superior army of the Roman Republic, and it is regarded as one of the greatest tactical feats in military history. The ruins sit on top of a hill with great views of the surrounding countryside. If you are thinking of eating at Antichi Sapori during your stay, we always recommend you go see Cannae first, then head to Antichi Sapori for an amazing lunch.
Beaches
You can certainly soak up some Puglian sun while staying at the villa. The closest beaches are actaully in Giovinazzo. You'll find lots of smooth rocks to lay out on in the rocky beach along with some beach clubs. If you want sand, the closest beach would be at Poligano a Mare. It has recieved awards for the quality, cleanliness and facilities, and the views can't be beat. There are some rock sections "on cliffs" alternated with stretches of golden sand. There's even a bit of "cliff diving" if you are adventurous enough.
Shopping
Have the itch to do a little shopping for the latest Italian fashions? There are some very nice stores in Terlizzi we can recommend and get you a 15% discount as well. And for those looking for even more shops, there's an outlet mall a quick 20 minute drive from the villa.
Restaurants
While we always offer cooking services at the villa, sometimes you'll probably want to go out and enjoy the other amazing food in the area. We always have recommendations for lots of great places right in town, from pizza to steak to drinks and snacks. There are amazing seafood places not far from the villa and, as we've mentioned before, both the famous restarants of Antichi Sapori and Grotta Palazzese are short drives from the villa.
